Examination TextJames Clegg aged 32 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St. James within the liberty of Westminster upon his oath saith that he never was bound an apprentice, that he was a yearly hired servant to Mr Wharton, a Distiller opposite Harts Horn Lane in the Strand in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid for the space of two years and a half at the yearly wages of 6 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same at the intermarriage with his present wife Margaret which was on the third Day of November in the year of our Lord 1751 at St. Mary le Bone Church in the County of Middlesex by whom he hath two children living to wit Margaret aged six years and George aged two years both now with this Examinant, that he never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes. Sworn the 31st Day of January 1759 before Thomas Kynaston.
