| Examination Text | The Examination of Sarah Stratford singlewoman taken upon oath this 15th Day of December in the year of our Lord 1739. Who upon her voluntary oath saith that she is about 21 years old and never was married, that on Tuesday the 27th Day of November last past she was delivered of a Male bastard child (since christened John) in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex yet living and become chargeable to the said Parish, and that one John Naylor now or lately a Footman to one Mrs Cuss in Pall Mall in the Parish of St. James Westminster had carnal knowledge of her body some time in order month of December or January last past in the fore parlour of the dwelling house of the said Mrs Cuss in Pall Mall aforesaid and several times afterwards at the same place at which or one of which times he begot on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said John Naylor is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
