Examination TextElizabeth Diston otherwise Allen aged 20 years in the workhouse saith she was married to one Thomas Allen at the Romish Chapel at Lincolns Inn Fields on the 12th Day of last March saith that she hath been informed by one Ann Jackson that she, the said Ann Jackson, was married to the said Thomas Allen several years ago and hath had three children by him since such marriage, but that she does not remember to have heard at what place they were married, that she this Examinant hath often demanded of the said Thomas Allen whether he was ever married to the said Ann Jackson or not and that he hath always denied it, that she very well remembers that about seven or eight months ago the said Thomas Allen was apprehended and brought before a Justice of the Peace in York Buildings for not keeping a child which he had by the said Ann Jackson, and that the warrant was discharged upon her this Examinants taking the child and maintaining it which she did until the same died, that the said Thomas Allen is a Taylor served his time in Ireland where he was born as he hath informed her, and that he never kept any house rented 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in England as she ever heard, that before she was married to the said Allen she was a yearly hired servant to one Mr Hudson who kept a Twist Shop next the Playhouse Passage in Drury Lane for the space of one year and four months had 3 pounds by the year wages diet and lodging, and that her master then raised her to £3 10 shillings by the year whom at that hiring she there served one year and three months more, that she then quitted that service which is about a year and a half ago and that she never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes or was a yearly hired servant the space of a year in any service since, that she is now Great with child and that the said Thomas Allen did beget her with child of such child or children as she now goeth with as is pregnant of.
