Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Carter a singlewoman taken upon oath this [blank] Day of [blank] in the year of our Lord 1741. Upon her oath saith she is about [blank] years of age, that she never was married, that she was on the 29th day of December last past delivered of a female bastard child (since christened Elizabeth) in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex yet living and become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and further saith that one Robert Niblet, a journeyman Bricklayer had carnal knowledge of her body in a room two pair of stairs forward in Gold Beaters Alley by Drury Lane some time in or about the month of June last past and several times since at the same place at which or one of which times he begot on her body the said female bastard child, and that he the said Robert Niblet is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the then year above written before me [blank].
