Examination Text | Sarah Elliot aged 18 years in the workhouse of and belonging to the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she never was married, was bound out apprentice by the Parish officers of St Clement Danes to one Mary Steel who keeps a Brokers Shop in Little Bridges Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid where and with whom she served five [sic], came thence to the workhouse aforesaid, And this Examinant upon her voluntary oath further saith that she was on Saturday the 20th Day of February last delivered of a Male bastard child (since christened Francis) in the workhouse aforesaid, and that one Francis Clark a Shoemaker who lodged in her mistresse's house aforesaid had carnal knowledge of her body in his lodging room in the Garret upon the bed there about eight months ago and several times afterwards upon the same bed and in several other places at which or one of which times he the said Francis Clark did beget on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said Francis Clark is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
