Examination TextThe Examination of Judith Holland singlewoman passed from St. Mary Newington Butts in the County of Surry taken on oath this 20th Day of October 1744. Who upon oath saith she is about 26 years of age, that she never was married nor bound apprentice never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year or paid any parish taxes, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Jerkett at the blew Perrewigg in Great Suffolk Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields for near two years at 4 pounds 10 shillings for the first year, 5 pounds per ann. the second, quitted the same on the first Day of August last and never was a yearly hired servant afterwards, And this Examinant upon her further voluntary oath saith she is now Great with child which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that one Charles Freeman, servant to the said Mr Jerkett had carnal knowledge of her body some time in or about the month of April last at the said Mr Jerkett's house in the Kitchin of the said house and several times afterwards at the same place at which or one of which times he the said Charles Freeman did beget her with child of the child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant off, and that he the said Charles Freeman is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Taken and sworn the day and year abovesaid before James Fraser.
