DescriptionWilliam Thacker, 19 years of age. His Father, a sawyer, & mother live in Back Walk, Saunder's Gardens. He has worked at Mr. Coste's, Chip Hat maker in the same Gardens & denies having ever stolen anything in his life. He has been convicted at the Old Bailey of stealing an Iron chain & Judgment was respited by by [sic] the Court in order, That He might be sent to The Refuge. He says, He was asked by a lad to Carry a Bag for him, with which He was stopped & was delivered into the custody of a Constable. The Bag contained the chain & The lad, who gave it him, ran away. Mr. Coste was desired to attend this Board & He gave the Petitioner a very indifferent Character, stating at the same time the improbous life of his Parents. Admitted.
