Several of the Inhabitants of White Horse Yard having presented a
Petition to this Committee setting forth the great Inconvenience of the Grate being taken
away from the Middle of the Yard to the great Nusance of the whole Inhabitants
residing there and praying that the same may be restored to its former Place Ordered
that the same be done according to their request.

Mr. John George< no role > Collector Reported that Mr. Johnston near Temple Bar
had no Lamp up the first half Year and therefore desired to be excused at half Tax
Ordered that the Collector take the same from Lady day to Michas 1773.

Mr. Griffiths's Pavement opposite his Door in Bear Yard wants to be relayed
A New Stone wanted on the outside the Markettt House-that a Lamp being taken
in Little Shire Lane occasioned from pulling down an Old Great House and that a Lamp
is greatly wanted there Ordered that the said several works be done

Mr. Harris of the Strand complaining that he was over Rated paying
but £70 but Rated £90-And Mr. Brown of Portugal Street complaining that
he was also over Rated his Rent being only £130.. altho' Rated £150 Ordered
that the Collector receive of Mr. Harris and Mr. Brown at the reduced Rents of
£70 &.. £130.

Mr. Nixon Inspector to this Committee Reporting that there are some
Stones wanting in the Footway of Carey Street Ditto in Portugal Street and that a Porters
Block wants to be repaired at Exeter Change in the Strand Ordered that the same
be done accordingly.

Adjourned to Friday the 19th. Instant at 6 o'Clock

From the Commissioners for Paving Westminster Etc

August 9th 1774

The Commissioners having been informed that many of the
Works now carrying on are let by the Contractors to other Persons
greatly under the Prices agreed to be paid to such Contractor by
means whereof the several Works are not properly executed
according to Contract, The Commissioners think it their Duty to
acquaint the several Committees thereof and hope they will make
Inquiry concerning this matter
