January 1797 at the House of
the Sign of the
red Lion in portland Street parish of St. George Hanover
Square on view of the Body of a new born Male Infant
Child then & there lying dead to Wit

John Atkinsen< no role > Keeper of the Church Yard at St. James:
being sworn deposeth & saith that Yesterday Morning between
8 & 9 o'Clock he was in the Sexton's office & a
Man told him there were a bundle lying under
the Bellfry within the Iron Rails & added he believes
it was a Child for he thought be felt a Child's
head this Dept. went with him & when they
arrived at the place there was a Man there
this Dept. look up the parcel & he look & the sd.
two Men took it into the Sextons Office he
opened it & it contained a male Child It was
pinned up in a white Cloth & one that was a purple & white Linnen cloth. he had passed
by there about 1/2 past 7 o'Clock that Morning
but did not then observe it. further he
knoweth not.
