Conveyed the deceased to St. Martins Workhouse
between 9 and 10 o'Clock, that after the deceased had
breakfasted upon some Tea and bread and butter
he was put down into the Hole or Room when
Prisoner [..] for Felony are confined when he
said he did not believe Mr. Phillips had [..]
wished him to be put the but this Deponent
such Mr. Phillips had desired him to be confind
safe or he would give them the slip. that
when this Deponent had run him safe lodged
in the said told he went away

William Yard< no role > the Keeper of St. Martins Work
house being sworn saith that Yesterday the 27th.
instant about half part one in the Afternoon
he want down Stairs to the Hole to fetch the
deceased

Deceased up to Dinner and when he had un-
locked and opened the Door of the Hole the
found the deceased hanging by the Neck
by a Handkerchief fixed round his Neck
and tied to an Iron Bar over the Hole
Door, whereupon he laid hold of the Hand-
kercheif and tore it and the deceased fell
on the Floor, and he called for Assistance
and an Apothecary came and opened a Vein
but no blood issued forth and he said it
was in vein to try any further operations
as he was in [..] overable Whereupon the body
was conveyed to St. Martin Workhouse
