Informations taken this fourth day of
September 1788 at the Parish of St. Martins
in the Fields within the Liberty of Westmr .
in the County of Midsex upon an Inquisition
touching the death of Martha Hay lying
dead in the said Parish Liberty & County

George Tinch< no role > a Lodger at Mr. James Adams< no role > in
Whitcomb Street in a Garret, on his Oath
saith, That Martha Hay< no role > the Deced lodged in
another Garret adjoining to Dept. Says that
Yesterday Evening about a Quarter before
Seven o' Clock Deced was in Depts. Room, being
low Spirated, lower than she was the Day
before That he went out on Business
bearing the Deced in his Room with his
Children, Says that he returned about
Eleven o' Clock, and not seeing the Deced in
his Room, Depts. Wife went into the Deced's
Room and returned imediately saying to
Dept. that she saw deced Hanging, upon
which Dept. and Mr. Toy another Lodger
went into the Room and saw Deced Hanging
by a Cord which was fasten'd to an Iron
Screw at the top of the said past and around the Deced's Hand Says
that Mr. Foy out the Cord and Dept. took hold
of the Deced and laid her Down upon the Bed
Says that the Deced's face and Hands were
quite Cold but her Body was warm Says
that a Surgeon was fetched who bled Deced
in the Arm and another Surgeon out her
in the Neck, and endeavoured, for a long
time to restore Deced to life but without
effect, the Deced having hung too long
and Dept. believes that the Deced hanged
herself, Says that the Deced was very low
Spirited, and appeared to Dept. to be must
Disordered in her Mind.
