Copy of Informations taken the Sixth day of July 1787 at the Parish
of Saint Margaret Westminster touching the Death of Elizabeth Carter< no role >

Charles Lyseight< no role > Assistant to Mr. Hanbury of King Street in the Parish of Saint
Margaret Wesminster Surgeon on his Oath saith that this day about half after One
O Clock this Deponent was desired to come to a Woman who was Drowned in a Water
Tub upon which he went to Mr. Curries in King Street Westminster and saw the
Deceased in a Water Tub with her Feet down wards no Water being in the Tub but
Deceaseds Cloaths being Wet Says that he ordered the Tub to be pulled down and deceased
was pulled out of it when appeared to have been considerable time drowned Says that he
was since examined the Body but found no external Marks of violence upon her there being
a fullness in Deceased Throat occasioned he believes by Deceased lying so long in the Tub
Says that the Deceased might put herself into the Tub, but thinks she would have graced
herself against the Edge of the Tub, Says that there was a Blackness on the inside of
the Right Arm and Deponent thinks some congeald Blood which might have happened
either by her being forced into the Tub or by putting herself into it

Robert Crawford< no role > a Lodger at Mr. Blaze in King Street Westminster Labourer on his
Oath saith That this day between One and Two OClock Deponent informed that
a Woman Mr. Carter was Drowned at Mr. Curries in King Street upon which he
went there and Mr. Hanbury's Journeyman came there at the same time says that
he felt the Deceased at the bottom of the Tub That Mr. Hanbury's Journeyman Assisted
Deponent to pull the Tub down (there being no Water in the Tub and Deponent pulled
her out of the Tub when she appeared to have been some time drowned her hands being [..]

Taylor on her Oath saith That Mr. Carter and his Wife Elizabeth Carter< no role > the Deceased
have Lodged with Deponent the Kitchen about 7 Weeks and that Mr. Carter behaved
very ill to the Deceased, in Scolding her often says that on Wednesday last about 4 OClock
in the Afternoon Mr. Carter and the Deceased drank Tea together in Deceased's Kitchen that
about 10 OClock that might (July 4th) Deponent was coming into her House when she saw
the Deceased setting in her Shop when Deponent wished her a good night and Deceased
bid Deponent a good night Says that she did not see the Deceased afterwards alive
nor did she see Mr. Carter until about half after Eight O Clock last Night when he
came home in Liquor Swearing and being very abusive, Says that Deponent went
out again taking a Bundle with him under his Coat and returned about Eleven Says
that this Morning Mr. Carter came home and desired Deponent to call Mrs. Gray which
she did, and Deponent then went out and when she returned she asked Mr. Carter if he
had heard anything of Mrs. Carter to which he Answered, No nor ever should for she was
either Hanged or Drowned, having left her Pockets and Money behind her and Deponent
says that about a Month ago was gone out in a brown Camblet Gown Deceased went away
and left her Husband for four Days says that a little after One OClock a Woman came
to beg a Pail of Water when the Deceased was discovered to be in the Water Tub the Wooden
Cock in the Tub being forced down and the Water Run away Says that she slept on
Wednesday Night in a Fore Room on the first Floor but never heard any Noise or Disturbance
in the House that Night nor does she know whether the Deceased came home that night
or not as he frequently staid out at night says that she does not know that Mr. Carter
ever Struck the Deceased. nor did the Deceased ever complain to her that he had done so
Richard Hunter< no role > one of the Patrole of Saint Margarets Parish on his Oath saith
that on Wednesday Night last he was at the Northumberland Arms in the Broad
Sanctuary Westminster That Mr. Carter came in about half after One O Clock
in the Morning with two other Men, That Carter was Trouble some in Company
