to wit.

An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King, at the Parish of Saint Margaret
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Thirty first day of July in the Thirteenth Year
of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain,
France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Prickard< no role > , Gentleman,
Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on View of the Body of
James Porter< no role > then and there lying dead, upon the Oath of William Isles< no role > ,
Thomas Plant< no role > , George Bartlett< no role > , Thomas Stanley< no role > , Charles Powvey< no role > , John Brown< no role > , William Axford< no role > ,
Jarvis Littlefear< no role > , John Beck< no role > , Robert Turnbull< no role > , Rice Evors< no role > , and John Chewton< no role >
good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly Sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said James Porter< no role > came to
h is Death, do upon their Oath say That the said James Porter< no role > on the Sixth day of July in the
Year aforesaid at the Parish of Saint John the Evangelist in the Liberty and County aforesaid to wit at a certain Place called
Milbank near to the River of Thames being walking along a Plank of Wood laid from a Coal Lighter in the said River
to a certain Dock belonging to Mr. William Hoare< no role > Coal Merchant at Milbank aforesaid with a Lack of Coals on his
Back it so happened that in walking along the said Plank his Feet slipped by reason whereof he the said James
Porter
< no role > accidentally casually and by Misfortune fell from off the said Plank with the said Lack of Coals into the
Water there by means whereof he the said James Porter< no role > by the force of the fall and weight of the Lack of Coals did
then and there receive One Mortal Fracture on the Right Leg of him the said James Porter< no role > , of which said Mortal
Fracture he the said James Porter< no role > at the Parish of St. Margaret in the Liberty and County aforesaid to wit at Westminster
Hospital in James Street being there carried did Languish and Languishing did Live from the said Sixth day of July
to the Thirty first day of the same Month in the Year aforesaid on which said Thirty first day of July in the Year aforesaid at
the Hospital aforesaid he the said James Porter< no role > of the said Mortal Fracture and of a Fever occasioned thereby did Dye. And
to the Jurors aforesaid on their Oath aforesaid do say that the said James Porter< no role > in Manner and by the Means aforesaid
accidentally casually and by Misfortune came to his Death and not otherwise, and that the said Lack of Coals was moving
to the Death of the said James Porter< no role > and is of the Value of One Shilling but whose Property the said Sack of Coals were
does not appear to the Jurors. In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the Foreman of the Jurors aforesaid on behalf
of himself and the rest of the said Jurors have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the Day Year and at the
Place first above mentioned.
