John Nichols< no role > and his Family were likewise in their
Apartment, they being bery seldom out after ten O'Clock,
Says that she verily believes that all the Persons above
named on the Second Floor, have lost their lives by the Fire,
that happened there, Says that she never heard any
Quarrel between any of her Lodgers, and verily believes
that no Person wilfully set the House on Fire

Elizabeth Aickin< no role > a Lodger at Mrs. Nash in James Street
on her Oath saith, that being in Bed in her own Apartment
beingtwoone pair of Stairs backwards on friday Night last, Says
that she heard a Child cry in the two pair of Stairs room
backwards, and soon after heard a Noise which she thought
was the cracking of Wood burning and got out of Bed
says that whilstasshe was getting up part of the Ceiling of the
Room fell in, being on Fire, and immediately set Fire to
the Tester of her Bed, Says that she thereupon called Mr. Sikes
who lodged in the adjoyning Room and immediately went
down Stairs, and called Mrs. Nash, says that she endeavourd
to carry up a pail of Water but could not get up Stairs
for the Flames and Smoak, and Deponent then went away.

William Meeres< no role > Governor of the Workhouse belonging to the
Parish of St. George Hanover Square on his Oath saith, that
on Saturday Morning lastthathe was informed of a Fire
that happened that Morning in James Street< no role > , and that
Several Persons were Burnt, Says he thereupon went there
and after having removed some Rubbish he found four
Bodies, and several parts of Bodies, which he sent to
the Workhouse , Says that the Persons that were Digging the
Rubbish sent him word this Morning that they had found
in the Rubbish the Body of a Child, and Parts of another
Body, Says that he went to the Ruins and sent them home
to the Workhouse in a Shell left at the Ruins for that
purpose, and says that the same were laid with the other
Bodies, and that all the Bodies this day viewed by the Jury
were brought from the Ruins of the Fire in James Street
as above.
