Sir
The Grand Committee of the Governors of St: Thomas's
Hospital
(whose province it is to Manage the Affairs of it) having
been Inform'd that a bill is preparing to be brought into the House
of Comons
for Inclosing Alborough Common and that you are the
Gentleman Concern'd in Solicting the Bill I give you the present
trouble in Obedience to an Order of the said Committee
As it cannot but be notoriously known in those Parts
that the Governors of this Hospital are Possessed of a Considerable
Estate called the Manor of Bewick Garth
in Holderness
Originally
Granted to them by the Charles of King Edward the Sixth [..] Founder
of the Hospital, which Estate is now in Lease to Samuel Watson< no role >
Esqr
.
of Hull
And as Bills of this Sort from their very Nature must some
way or other Affect the proprictors of Estate & Contiguous to the Lands
propos'd to be Enclosed The Gentlemen of the Committee are not a
Little Surpriz'd that a Step of this Kind should be taken without this
knowledge and being Consulted in the Affair.
If indeed (as it has been Suggested) the passing this Bill
will be a Detriment to the Hospital Estate the Silence of the Persons
Engag'd in it is Accounted for.
Under these Circumstances I am to Acquaint you that as
Faithfull Trustees for the Charity the Governors think Themselves
bound to Oppose this Bill
I am
Sr: Your very humb Servt.
