Gentlemen Maketh Oath that having been desired by the above
named Defendant to serve the Prosecutrix with a Notice of Trial for the present
Session he this Doponent on Saturday the Twenty eighth of March last went to
the House of Sir Philip Gibbs< no role >
in Welbeck Street
where the said Prosecutrix
lately lived as a Servant in Order to serve her with the Notice hereto annexed
which he previously received from Mr. Brown the Defendants Solicitor for that
purpose And the Deponent saith that upon Inquiry for the said Prosecutrix
at the said Sir Philip Gibbs< no role >
's he was informed by Sir Philips Foot Boy that the
said Jane Herring had left the said Sir Philip Gibbs< no role >
's Service about two Months
and that he did not know where she was to be found And this Deponent saith
that on the fourth day of April instant he called again at the said Sir Philip Gibbs's
in order to learn if possible from some of the other Servants where he might be
likely to find the said Jane Herring when he saw one of the said Sir Philip
Gibbs< no role >
's Women Servants who informed this Deponent that the said Jane Herring
was gone to lodge at No. 5 Adam Street Paddington
whereupon this Deponent
Went to Adam Street and inquired at No. 5 in the said Street for the said Jane Herring
when he was informed she was not there and that on Wednesday Morning the
eighth instant he called again at the said House when he was informed by a
Woman in the said House that Mrs. Herring was not there but gone to the Dutchess
of Duspene in Piccadilly
and this Deponent went their and on Inquiry found a
Mrs. Herring who told this Deponent her Name was Sarah Herring< no role >
and not Jane
Herring And this Deponent Saith that being afterwards told the said Jane
Herring lived at No. 2 in Store Street Tottenham Court Road
he wait there
and found three different Houses numbered 2 and inquired at all three for
the said Jane Herring but could get no Information respecting her.
