this Dept then verify thought & believed would make the same
a good & proper Return & returned it so made up with the
said Certiorari & Indictmt and this Dept at that time
conceived that Chas Sheppard< no role > one of the Justices whose Name
this Dept Inserted in such Return was one of the Justices of
oyer & Terminer or he should not havenotInserted his Name
therein And this Dept further saith that the sd Book for Febry
Session 1783 is made up in the same manner as the Sessions
Books have been usually made up for a long series of Years
last past and in no other manner whatever & that the memdum
of the Captions not having been inserted therein until lately was owing
intirely to this Dept believing that they might as heretofore be
entred therein at any time previous to the Books being deposited
in the Record Room & the same Entries would have been therein
made in the manner they now appear it there had been no
proceedings in this Cause the sd Book not being compleat until
such entried were made therein And this Dept saith that the
sd Mr Eyles neither saw the sd Indictment Certiorari or return
to this Dept knowl & belief And this Dept further saith that
from the time the sd Indictment was found & certiorari allowed
to the kine of his Delivering the sd Indictment Certiorari & return
into the Crown Office this Dept never Conversed or consulted with
any person what return shod be made thereto or shewood to or
permitted any persons to see the sd Return when so made
except the Junior Clerk in the sd Office and this Dept further
saith he at that time conceived the sd Return to be a
proper Return & that he has not directly or indirectly reced
nor is he to recive nor did he expect or does he now expect to
receive any Gratuity Reward Compensation or other satisfactn
pecuniary on beneficial at in any respect whatsoever for or on
Account of making the sd Return to the sd Certiorari except
the sum of 9s/8d the legal Fees for the Allowance of the said
