Gentlemen.
A Letter from you of the 4th: Instant, as Secretaries to
the Committee appointed by the Lord Lieutenant, Deputy Lieutenant
and
Justices of the Peace
for the County of Middlesex
and City and Liberty of
Westminster
wad duly receivedAnd with the Approbation of his Honor the
Master of the Rolls a general Meeting of the Inhabitants at large was
this Day heldWhen
Your Letter was read and consideredAnd the Inhabitants
present unanimously expressed their Obligations to his Grace the Duke of
Northumberland,
as Lord Lieutenant and to the Committee for their
Attention to the public Defence and Securityand for their generous and
polite Offer of furnishing them with Arms and appointing Officers to instruct
Them in the use, free from ExpenceAt the same time, they have desired
one to acquaint the Committee, That they have it in Contemptation to
outer into an Association among themselves for the Purpose of learning
the use of Arms and rendering every Assistance that shall be necessary
to the Civil Power within their own Liberty, the Expence of which
they mean to defrayI am
