To the right Worshipful his Majestys Justices of the Peace for the
County of Middlesex at their Quarter Session of the Peace assembled.

The humble Petition and Appeal of John Lewis< no role > of
the Parish of Fulham in the County of Middlesex Gardener

Sheweth


That on the Eleventh Day of November last Thomas Burston having
as well for himself as for his Majesty the King exhibited a Complaint against
your Petitioner before Henry Lambe< no role > and Thomas Miller< no role > Esquires Two of
his Majestys Justices of the Peace in and for the said County under pretence
of your Petitioners having made use of a Carriage with Two Wheels without
having made Entry of or paid Duty for the same contrary to the Form of the
Statutes in such case the said Two Justices on the Eighteenth Day of the said
November took upon themselves to Convict your Petitioner of the pretended
Fact or Offence mentioned in the said Information and adjudged that your
Petitioner had forfeited the Sum of Twenty Pounds and by Warrant bearing
Date the said Eighteenth Day of November under their Hands and Seals
directed to John Abbot< no role > and Danby Moore< no role > and other Officers of Excise or either
of them thereby Authorising and Commanding them upon the Goods and Chattels
of your Petitioner to Levy the Sum of Twenty Pounds therein alledged to have
been recovered against him by the said Thomas Burston< no role > for the pretended
Offence mentioned in the said Conviction and to Seize and Carry away and
make Sale of the same within a Time and in manner therein mentioned

That on the Nineteenth Day of November last your Petitioners Goods
were Seized and on the Twenty Fifth Day of the said November sold to satisfy
the said Penalty of Twenty Pounds pretended to have been Incurred by your
Petitioner and such pretended Penalty was by virtue of such Warrant actually
Levied and Received by the said John Abbot< no role >

That your Petitioner apprehends he is aggrieved by the said Conviction
and Judgment passed upon or against your Petitioner by the said Two Justices
and the said Warrant of Distress and the Sale of your Petitioners Goods and the
Levying the said pretended Penalty by virtue of the said Warrant

Your Petitioner therefore meet humbly appeals to your
Worships against the aforesaid Conviction and Judgment and prays
that your Worships will be pleased to appoint some Day in the
present Session to hear this your Petitioners Appeal and to
Order that all Partys concerned may then and there attend hear
and abide by the Judgment and Determination of your Worships
in and concerning the Premisses And that your Petitioner may
be therein relieved

And your Petitioner shall ever pray Etc.
