Middlesex


At the General Quarter Session of the Peace of our Lord the
King holden for the County of Middlesex at Hicks Hll in Saint John Street
in the said County (by Adjournment) on Thursday the Thirteenth day
of January in the Fourteenth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord
George the Third King of Great Britain Etc. Before Sir John Hawkins< no role >
Knight Benjamin Cowley< no role > John Walford< no role > John Spencer Colepeper< no role > Esqrs .
and others their fellows Justices of our said Lord the King Assigned to keep
the Peace within the said County and also to hear and determine divers
felonies Trespasses and other Misdemeanors Committed within the
same County

Whereas the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint
Martin in the Fields within the Liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex
Did at the last General Session of the Peace Exhibit their Petition and Appeal
Setting forth That by Virtue of a Pass Warrant or Order of Removal under the hands
and Seals of John Phillips< no role > and William Timbrell< no role > Esquires two of his Majesty's Justices
of the Peace for the City and Liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex aforesaid
(one whereof being of the Quorum) bearing date the Twenty Second day of September
last Anne Wood< no role > Widow of Tobias Wood< no role > Aged upwards of Thirty Years and her five
Children by her said Husband Vizt. Anne < no role > Aged Eight Years Joseph < no role > upwards of Six
Years Thomas < no role > upwards of four Years Mary < no role > Aged three Years and Elizabeth < no role > aged seven
months were removed from the Parish of Saint George Hanover Square within the
Liberty and County aforesaid at the Parish of Saint Martin in the Fields aforesaid
as the Place of their last legal Settlement Whereby the Petitioners conceived
themselves Aggrieved Now upon hearing the said Appeal and what hath been
Alledged on either Side by the respective Churchwardens and Overseers their Councel
and Witnesses in and concerning the Premisses It is Ordered that the said Pass Warrant
or Order of the said Two Justices be (by and with the Consent of both Parties) Ratified
and Confirmed and the same is hereby ratified and Confirmed Accordingly And it is
further Ordered that the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Saint Martin in the Fields in the County of Middlesex Do maintain and provide for the said Anne
Wood
< no role > and her said Five Children (Vizt.) Anne, Joseph, Thomas, Mary & Elizabeth
until they can free themselves from the Charge thereof by due Course of Law
