To the Church wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint James Clerkenwell in the
County of Middlesex and also to all Constables and Head boroughs within the same Parish especially to
Joseph Bishop< no role > Constable .

We whose Names and Seals and hereunto set being two of his Majestys Justices of the Peace of the County of
Middlesex residing and Acting in the Division of Finsbury and Dwelling in or near the said Parish one of
us being of the Quorum having received the Complaint of you the said Church wardens and Overseers of the poor
that the several of the Inhabitants and Occupiers of Houses Lands and other rateable Tenements within your said
Parish residing in that part or District of the said Parish called the lower side whose names are contained in
the Schedule hereunto annexed have refused and made default and still do refuse to pay or contribute
the Sums of Money respectively rated and Assessed upon them by a certain Rate made in pursuance of the
Statutes in that Case provided which Sums are set down against their respective names, not with standing the
said Sums have duly Demanded the said Complaint being verifyed by Oath Do hereby Authorize
require and Command you the said Churchwardens and Overseers and also you and every of you the said
Constables and Headborough forthwith to Warn and Summon each and every of the said Defaulters to Appear
Personally before us and others our Fellows Justices acting and dwelling as aforesaid At the House of William Lester< no role >
known by the sign of the Cherry Tree near Rosomonds row in the said Parish of Saint James Clerkenwell on Wednesday the thirtieth day
of this Instant August at Ten of the Clock in the forenoon precisely to shew cause if any they have why they so
refuse to pay and contribute the Sums charged and Taxed upon them respectively And give them further notice
that if they do not appear and shew sufficient Cause as aforesaid the several Sums from them due will be
levied upon their respective goods and for defect of such distress they will be committed to His Majestys Gaol of
Newgate being the Common Gaol of this County there to remain without Bail or Mainprize untill payment of
the said Sums and Arrear ages as the Statute in that behalf requires And for your so doing this shall be your
sufficient Warrant thereof Fail not to give such Notice or Warning nor to give us a true return in Writing at
the day and hour and place aforesaid in what manner you shall have Executed this precept at your peril
Given under our hands and Seals this Twenty third day of Augustin the year of our Lord 1769.
