COMPLAINT having been made to his Majesty's Justices of the
Peace of the County of Middlesex , Sitting at Hicks-Hall , in St
John-Street , for the Administration of Justice within the Division of
Finsbury (one being of the Quorum) by the Churchwardens and Over-
Seers of the Poor of the Parish of St James, Clerkenwell , within the
Said County and Division, of your Neglect to pay and contribute the
Sum rated, assessed and charged upon you, towards the necessary Relief
of the Poor of the Said Parish (whereof you are an Inhabitant) and Still
in Arrear after Demand made. You are required by the Said Justices
(and by Virtue of a Precept for that Purpose) hereby Summoned perso-
nally to be and appear before them and others his Majesty's Said Justices
at the House of William Lester< no role > , known by the Sign of the Cherry-
Tree , near Rosamond's-Row , in the Said Parish of Saint James,
Clerkenwell , on Wednesday the 30th Day of August Instant, by
Eleven o' Clock in the Forenoon, of Shew Cause (if any you have) why
you refuse to pay and contribute the Said Sum assessed on you, and So in
Arrear: And you are further to take Notice, that if you do not appear
and Shew Sufficient Cause against the Payment thereof, the Same will be
levied by Distress and Sale of your Goods, and in Defect of Such Distress
you will be liable to be committed to Newgate, being the common Goal
of the Said County, there to remain without Bail or Mainprize, until
Payment of the Said Sum and Arrearages, as the Statute in that Behalf
requires. Dated this 23d Day of August, 1769.
