John Alder< no role > of Lincolns Inn in the County of Middlesex
[..] maketh Oath and Saith that about Eight of the Clock of
that now of the [..] instant the said William James< no role > the Chambers
of the said John Alder< no role > Situate in the Chappel Stair Case in Lincolns
Inn [..] did enter And upon the said John Alder< no role > then and there
did make an Assault and with a loaded Pistol did give the said
John Alder< no role > Several Wounds on his Head Face and Nose And
the said John Alder< no role > further Saith that he was informed and verily
believes that the said William James< no role > did on Purpose and of Malice
for thought And by lying in Wait so Cut and distiqure the Head
Face and Nose of the said John Alder< no role > And this Deponent Also
Saith that a certain Person to this (upon in unknown did inform
this Deponent when the said William James< no role > was taken that he had
seen the said William James< no role > for Sometime before [..] ting about
Lincolns Inn near to the Chappel Stair Case which he this Deponent
believes was done with an Intent to Walch an Opportunity to maim and disfigure this Deponent when
there was none in Chambers but himself which Person this
Deponent has not been yet able to Discover so as to have his Testimony
in this matter which this Deponent Apprehends and verily believes
is Material and without whose Testimony this Deponent verily
believes an Indictment cannot be found against the said
William James< no role > for the said Offence And this Deponent apprehends
and verily believes he shall be able to find out the said Person so as to
have the Benefit of his Testimony at the next Sessions as he is making
all Possible Enquiry after him And has caused him to be advertised
in the [..] advertiser
