To the Clerk of the Peace for the County of Middlesex or to his Deputy

Whereas it Appears to us Two of his Majestys Justices of the Peace [..] the
said County of Middlesex by the Oath of Lawrence Abel< no role > one of the Watchmen
of the Parish of saint Mary Lebone in this County that he the said Lawrence
Abel
< no role > was bound in one Recognizance to prosecute one James Turner< no role > at the-
General Quarter Session of the Peace held for this County in April last And
he Accordingly Attended the said Session and Preferred his Bill and was Sworn
thereon and Delivered the same to one of the Grand Juryman and Attended to
be called and Examined thereon, But the said Lawrence Abel< no role > being bound over
in another Recognizance to Prosecute one William Rich< no role > for felony and Grand Larceny
against whon a Bill of Inditment was found and sent to the Old Barley wherefore
the said Abel was Obliged to leave his Attendence on the Grand on the other Bill
of Indictment and go to the Old Bailey and give his Evidence against the said
William Rich< no role > which he accordingly did and the said William Rich< no role > was found
Guilty and Ordered to be Trasported for the said Felony and Grand Larceny.and
then he returned to Hicks Hall towait to be called to be Examined on the Bill he
preferred against the said James Turner< no role > and there continued form day to day
during the time the Grand Jury sat and until they were discharged and never
was called in to be Examined and being quite Ignorant and unacquainted-
with the matter never Applied to any of the Grand Jury to let them [..]
had been absent for some time at the Old Bailey to give Evidence on the other
Bill of Indictmened or to Inquire of any Person Whether he had been called upon to
to be Examined upon the said Bill during his Absence And that it was not
though any wilfull neglect or partiality but meerly through ignorance not
Knowing how to Address himself to the Grand Jury to Know the reason why he
was not called to be Examined And hath since Applied to Mr. Jefferson Deputy
Clerk of the Peace for this County whom he received a Letter form that unless he
Applied to his office to shew some cause to the contrary his recognizance would
be Estreated in to the Count of Exchequer upon which Application and relating the
matter Mr. Jefferson refined to the Bills of Indictment of that Session and found the
Bill had been preferred and returned not Appeared to these are therefore to
Authorize and require youto respite and for bear Estreating into his Majestys
Court of Exchequer the Recognizance where in the said Lawrence Abel< no role > stands
Court to Prosecute the said James Turner< no role > as above recited And for your so doing
this shall be your sufficient Warrant Given under our hands this
day of November one thousand seven hundred and Sixty Seven.
