The several Informations of Henry Hamer< no role > , John Newland< no role > , Mary Lane< no role > ,
Edward Jermain< no role > , Elizabeth Osman< no role > , Mary Uxtable< no role > , &, Abraham Towlmin< no role > ; taken
& as knowledged on Behalf of our Sovereign Lord the King touching the Death
of Joseph Shank< no role > at the White Swan in Ratcliffe Highway on the Ninth
day of November 1761. before me George Grew< no role > on an Inquisition then &
there taken on View of the Body of the said Joseph Shank< no role > as underwritten

Henry Hamer< no role > ; Male of his Majestyes Ship the Renown, who off Duty, resident
with his Mother of the Upper Ground Mary gold< no role > Stairs in the County of Surry On his
Oath says That on Saturday the Seventh day of November about 5, afternoon
Deponent came to the House of Captain Joseph Shank< no role > in Worcester Street near
Ratcliffe high Way & he let this Depont. in, & Mrs Looney Wife of Daniel Looney< no role >
was with Shanks in the Parlour drinking some Rum, Water & Sugar; Mrs
Looney left the Parlour & went into the Kitchin Where her Husband Daniel

< no role > then was, & Depont. heard very high words between them about a Roll &
butter: Mrs Looney returned to the Parlour & told Shanks, her Husband was very
angry with her, and Shanks Spoke loud end to be heard, & said Captn Looney
be quiet, It is very very hard I cannot live quiet in my own House; Looney replyed in
very reproachfull words & called Mrs Looney Where & Bitch a boundantly, Mrs Looney
returned to the Kitchin to her Husband, Shanks soon followed & presently, called out for
Help for he apprehended Looney wd. Kill his Wife, Depont. heard & went out of the
Parlour into a Passage & with Shanks went into the Kitchin where he saw Looney make
2 or 3 blows at his Wife with a Sugar hammer wch he had in his hard, but did not see
Blood follows: with Deponts. Assistance Looney kept the Sugar hammer & then seized as
Smal Chopper for flesh, & in making several Attempts he wounded his Wife ones on
the Head, Depont. interposed & presented further mischief & soon after Looney went
out of the House in a Fury, calling Wheres & Rogues, then this Depont. went quite away,
About an hour after Depont. heard that Captn. Shanks was Shott; and haveing served
him formerly did bear him Respect & returned to the House where he had been & found
him - Shanks - dying, Since the Death of Shanks Depont: hath seen a large wound on
his lett side & verily believes that He dyed of that wound. Henry. Hamer.

Rose Whittle< no role > , Spinster aged between 15 & 16 years unacquainted with the Nature of an Oath
Says. That She is a Servant bound to Mrs Looney; That on the same Saturday the
seventh day of November She saw her Master Mr. Looney take a Gun from behind the
was house door, & take a Case from off the sd. Gun & Shoot Captn. Shanks & saw Captn.
Shanks fall (in the Kitchen of the House where both of them lived) on the Ground.
