The Information of Mrs. Eliza: White< no role >
of Mary Bone widow Taken before
me this 24th.. day of July 1761

Who being upon Oath says that on Sunday the 7th..
of June last a Person now present who calls himself
John Steel< no role > came to this Informant's House with Mr. Ashley
a Cheesmonger and Mr. Staples a Turner both of Bond
Street to Hire a Lodging for said Steel, says said Ashley
and Staples gave him a Character to this Informant
says that on Saturday the 13th of said Month of June about
five o Clock in the Evening the said Steel Rode out upon a
Horse belonging to her Neighbour Mr. Watkins the Butcher
and that he returned home a little after 11 the same Evening
says that when he thus Rode out, he was dressed in a
blue Surtout Coat and a narrow Gold Lace Hatt now produced
says that on the Friday following this Informant was out in the
Afternoon and at her return the same Evening She was Informed
that said Steel was Rode out again, and says that said Steel did not return that Night, but
returned on the Saturday Night about 11 o Clock with the aforesaid
Horse at which time he was dressed in a plain Hatt and blue
Surtout Coat, says that on the Monday Morning following the said
Steel lefthisher House, saying he was going to Town but returned
no more, says that after said Steel was gone She saw the Public
advertiser of that day which her maid had fetched for said Steel
before he went, in which said Steel appeared to the advertised as a
Highwayman
