The Several Informations of Thomas Fox< no role > of the
Sign of the Fox in Kingsland Road in the County of Middlesex
Victualler and John Craye< no role > Surveyor of the High way there
taken & acknowledged on Behalf of our Sovereing Lord the King
touching the Death of James Wright< no role > at the three Butchers in
Newington high way on the tenth Day of April 1761. before me
George Grew< no role > on an Inquisition then & there taken on View of the
Body of James Wright< no role > as under written.

Thomas Fox< no role > on hs Oath Says that on Monday the 6th. day of April
1761 between 3 & 4 in th Afternoon Depont. Saw a Man, unknown to this
Depont. sitting on the Cops of a Cart passing on north wards on the Kingsland road
with a Whip in his Hand driving 4 Horses Mares or Geldings before the sd Cart
when the Desed James Wright< no role > did first take hold of the head Geer of the Shaft horse
drawing sd Cart but could not hold him, then the deced attempted to take hold of
the Head Geer of the Horse called the body horse going before the Shaft horse ever whom the Driver [..]
& then the Driver did or attempted to whip the sd body Horse who thereupon flew
out of the Line of Draft to the Off Side where the desed Wright was & Depont.
believes the sd body Horse trod upon the foot of the deced wch occasioned him to fall
to the Ground & after the sd Wright the deced was down upon the Ground the sd
Driver by whipping or Cracking his Whip urged the sd drawing horses so that
they went forward a round Trot when as the Comon Pace of Cart Horses is to
Walk: And as the sd Horses & Cart passed on at the aforesd Rate this Dopont. saw the
6th wheel of the sd Cart pass upon & over the Body from his right Buttook upwards to his
Right Shoulder Blade The desed lay asmal Time there till by Assistance he
was brought into Deponents House, from when she was afterwards in the
same Evening carried to his own Habitation In Newinton Great Road .

This Depons asked the dowd why he attempted to take hold of one of the
Horses drawing sd Cart who answered that the Driver thereof first whipped
him from the Cops of the Cart as he the deced was at Labour which is day work
on the High way under the Direction ofthis Depont.the Surveyor , Jn Craw< no role >

John Crane< no role > Survey or of the Highway passing by the sign of the Fox aforesd
called Kingsland Highway that James Wright< no role > about 2 Hours before his
Death that the Reason why he attempted to stop the sd Cart & Horses was for that
the Driver thereof whipped Him the deced before such his Attempt
