was gone to the Wellssame there to this Depont. & was present during
part of the time of the Exhibitting the said Puppet Shew &
Perspective Views And this Depont. Saith that he made a faithful
Report to the Justices of what he had seen at the next Sessions
And this Deponent is surprized to find that his being present at
the Wells upon the Occasion aforesaid should be represented to your
22 Lordship as if this Depont. encouraged or Countenanced the Exhibitting
of Plays or Interludes at the sd Wells Whereas most of the Justices of
the Peace living & acting in this Division have been present at divers
Sorts of Diversions Exhibited at the said Wells particularly Richard
Richards
< no role > the Complaint & his Family many lines as this Depont
hath been redibly Informed & Believes And this Depont. Saith that
for many Years whilst Wm. Hallam< no role > was Tenent of & Occupyed the
said Taphouse which he did about Eleven Years before the said
15 Lewis Hallam< no role > & bought Coals & Glass Bottles of Richard Richards< no role >
He never heard Richard Ricards find any Fault with William Hallam< no role >
or Complain of the Performances at the Wells or Object against his
having Licence but often jorned with other Justices in granting him
One And this Deponent further Saith that on the Eighteenth day of
October last this Depont. was present at the Quarter Sessions when the said
Richard Richard < no role > & Mr. Mainwarning mentioned to this Deponent his
having signed such Permissive Licences for the sd. Mr. Roberts & the
24 sd. Lewis Hallam & his having Employed the sd. Winstone as this Clerk
And as to the Signing the Permissive Licence for Mrs. Roberts this Depont.
replyed he was prevailed on so to do by the said Mr. Barron And that
Mrs. Roberts had been dead three Years & upwards And as to the
Signing the Permissive License for the said Lewis Hallam this Depont.
said that the s. Richard Richards< no role > was so well Satisfyed with his
Character that the sd. Richard Richards< no role > had since Joyned with this
Depont. in granting a Licence to the sd. Lewis Hallam And as to the
15 Employing the sd. Winstone as this Clerk this Deponent told them
that since he found the said Winstone was disliked by some Justices
acting with him in the same Division he sayd that he would Employ
him no more And accordingly dismissed him the Twenty Second
day of September last & hath not since Employed him at all But
