June 1794

That it is from its present construction very incommodious
and dangerous to the Passengers being of so crooked a form
owing to Houses and Buildings on both sides of the River Brent
on the South side of the said Bridge projecting in such a
manner as to render it impossible for Persons entering upon
the Bridge at either end to see the other end, whereby frequent
Accidents happen.

That Your Memorialists have lately set up Lamps thereon
at each end to prevent Night Accidents and some years ago a
Wooden Foot Bridge on the South side thereof was added at the
Expence of the County supported by Trusses laid into the Brick
Work of the said Bridge whereby a considerable increase of Width
was obtained by adding the Old footway to the Carriage way, yet
still it now is at the East end barely Twenty feet wide:

That to make the said Bridge safe and commodious
and to prevent in future such Accidents Is have frequently
happened theron your Memorialists apprehend the only way
will be to purchase three Cottages or so much of them as shall
be wanted joining to the said Bridge at the last end thereof on
the South side of the Highway or Street And also a large Shed or
Building at the West end thereof now a Brokers Shop which
are marked in the Plan hereto annexed D and E and wholly
to take down and rebuild the Bridge in a stright direction in a
line with the present Street of New Brentford or as near to it as
may be, by which means Passengers approaching the Bridge at
each end will have a clear view or line of sight not only of the
whole Bridge, but of the Avenue leading to it at the other end
whereby that very dangerous part of a Road (the most frequented
perhaps of any in the kingdom) will be rendered safe and commodious.

That although the above stated inconveniences have
long been severely felt by the public in general and continually
noticed with concern by your Memorialists whose peculiar Duty it
is to render the Highway aforesaid safe for Passengers yet as their.
