September 1790

That Witness found two Men fighting Vizt. Roberts and Moore
in the Night time that he parted them and on his return found them
fighting again, that he took and put them both in New Prison , and in
the Morning brought them before Mr Friquet, thinks they were sent
down to the Prison for want of Surety - Yardley informed Witness that
Mr Blackborow wanted to speak to him - Mr Blackborow and Mr.
Clare were present - Mr Blackborow asked by what Authority they sent
them to Gaol said "at his Peril he ever sent Persons to Gaol, as he had
a place to put them in" Witness said he thought it unsafe, and that
sending two fighting Men to the same Cage would only offer an opportunity
for the strongest to kill the weakest; Mr Blackborow said, I will shew you
what I will do; Mr Blackborow went to the Gaol and the Witness within
an hour saw them out, when they came out, they hallooed him and said
Your Master is come home, That Witness went to the Gaoler to know
how they came out, who answered that Mr Blackborow had turned them out.

That Witness seeing the Enmity which Mr Blackborow had
against him declined his Duty as the general Character of Constable
he feared would not be a defence, said he was deferred by Mr.
Blackborow's Threats "That it was at his Peril if he sent any Persons to
Gaol and that if he went on he would look to his Condition and
appeared very angry, Could not till if Roberts or Moore or either of them
were Mr Blackborow's Tenants, but believes they were Undertenants upon
his Estate Mr Blackborow said to Witness that Turnell and Witness
had conspired against him in his Rents, and that he would prosecute
them for a Conspiracy, and that he would lay them on thick, Witness
said he would give Ten Guineas to see it brought on in a Court as he
Mr Blackborow supported these Girls.

Wright Furnell< no role > Cornchandler , A Deputy Constable approved
by Committee and Sworn in at Court Leet, said that the Constables have
been threatened by Mr Blackborow that if any of his Tenants were taken up
he would defend them. That he had taken up a reputed Thief on the
20th. June he had Information that she was at a Door and the Tenant.
