People called Quakers for liberty to continue the Possession of the Workhouse
for
their Aged Poor and for payment of the Money due to them on Account of the
Messuages and Ground purchased from them adjoining to the House of Correction
at Clerkenwell
had not been taken into Consideration on the Adjournment day of
the last Session for want of a sufficient number of Magistrates being present
to proceed on that Business - Ordered that the further Sum of £600 be
paid to the said Body of People called Quakers in part of the Purchase Money
and that the Clerk of the Peace do issue an Order upon the Treasurer of this
County for the payment thereof accordingly; and that this matter be taken
into further Consideration on the County day of the next Session
The Chairman also stated to the Court that he had seen Mr.
Bentley the Attorney for the Parties interested in Baines Moiety of the Lands Etc
intended to be purchased in Cold Bath Fields
, who objected to the Price Settled by
the Surveyors appointed to Value the same as too small at this Time on Account
of the difference in the Value of Stock at the time of the Valuation and the present
time and that his Clients expected some little Advance on their share on that
account. And that he had likewise seen Mr. Tilbury the Agent for Jervoise
Clerk Jervoise< no role >
Esqr
. who informed him that Rather than retard the Purchase
Mr. Jervoise would not insist on a higher Price for his Share of the Estate than
that fixt by the Surveyors if the Magistrates should think proper to make a
small addition to the Sum fixt as the Value of the Share belonging to Baines's
Representatives - Resolved that Mr. Chairman be desired to see Mr.
Bentley and to settle with him this matter before the County day of the next
Session and to take such other Steps as he may think necessary in order to have
the Purchase completed
