October 1782 .

Middlesex

At the General Quarter Session of the peace
of our Lord the King holden in and for the
County of Middlesex at the Sessions House for
the said County by adjournment on Thursday
the 17th. October 1782.

It being represented to this Court that the Debtors still continue to be
confined by the Sheriff of this County in the House of Correction at
Clerkenwell and therefore there is no Room or Opportunity for employing
the prisoners therein in hard Labour It is Ordered that the Order
of Court made at the Session of the peace holden for this County in the
Month of January last in respect to the allowance of One penny
halfpenny to each prisoner in the House of Correction during the time
only hear she performs hard labour and which Order was suspended
at the last Session be and the same is hereby further suspended
until the County day of the next Sessions of the peace to be holden
in and for the said County.

By adjournment same day.

The following Resolution come to at the last Session of the peace
holden for this County being Read Vizt. Resolved that all accounts of
Demands on the County be delivered to the Clerk of the peace on or before
the Thursday proceeding the County day of each Session and to the
Chairman on the Monday following It is Ordered that the same
be a standing Order of the Court and the same is hereby made a
standing Order of the Court accordingly.

By adjournment same day.

The following Order made at the last Session of the peace holden for
this County Vizt. It is Ordered that the Keeper of New prison at
Clerkenwell and the Governor of the House of Correction at Clerkenwell
do make out in Writing and do at every General and General Quarter
Session of the peace deliver to the Chairman of the Session as soon as
the Court shall be assembled a List of the several persons then in
Custody with a Description of the Offence or Offences and the time
for which every such person was committed distinguishing particularly
those who are directed by the Warrant of Commitment to be kept to hard
labour and also distinguishing the age and See of every such person
committed to hard labour and in what trade Manufacture or
Business every such person hath been employed what he or she
hath been most accustomed to and is best qualified for and hair
such person has behaved during his or her confinement
according to the best of his Information and Observation
It is Ordered that the said Order be and the same is hereby
made a standing Order of the Court.
