A Bill of Indictment being preferred and found this Day by the Grand
Inquest of this County against Wm. Pentlow< no role > the present Keeper of New Prison
at Clerkenwell (together with one Wm. Darvell< no role > ) for the Crime of Felony and
Murder It is thought fitt and Ordered by this Court that the said William
Pentlow be and he is hereby absolutly suspended from his Place or Office
of Keepership of the said Prison until further Order madeby his Matys
Justices of the Peace assembled in General Session of the Peace for this
County And it is further Ordered and Directed that Wm. Jones< no role > late
Servant of Wm. Wallbank< no role > late Keeper of the House of Correction at
Clerkenwell aforesaid be and he is Unanimously appointed to the Care
and keeping of New Prison aforesaid in the Stead and place of the said
Wm. Pentlow< no role > for the keeping of the Prisoners now in the same Or that may
be there committed To hold the same Office and Keepership during the
suspension of the said Wm. Pentlow< no role > And to receive have and hold the Fees
and Profitts of the said Keepership of the New Prison aforesaid And to be
under and Subject to the Direction and superintendance of a Committee
hereby Authorized to inspect manage and superintend the same so as
that due Care be taken of the Goods and other things belonging to the Estate
of this County by the said Wm. Jones< no role > and that the same be not imbezled or
lost And it is further more Ordered that it be and it is hereby recommend
and referred to Thomas Lane< no role > Bartholomew Hammond< no role > Edmund Byron< no role >
Thomas Garrett< no role > Henry Crosse< no role > John Crosse< no role > John Cox Richard Jackson< no role > Henry Norris< no role >
John Dekewer< no role > Hanmond Crosse< no role > Esqrs . and such other of His Majesty's
Justices of the Peaceof this County as it shall Please and to any three or
more of them to meet as a Committee from time to time until the time
appointed for holding the next Session of the Peace And to have full Power
and Authority to Examine Manage Direct and superintend New Prison
aforesaid and the Keeping thereof And Sastly it is Ordered and directed
that Mr John White< no role > the Cryer of this Court do on every Occasion that shall
arise or happen give speedy Notice to the Clerk of the Peace or his Deputy
that the said Chairman and the other Magistrates may be forth with
informed of such Occurrences and Occasions for the better Order
and Government of this County in the Premisses.
