Sabbath breakers, And for that no Indictment or prosecution as
the Petes. are advised can be Supported for Such offences but only
a forfeiture of the goods So Sold upon conviction the perpetrators
of Such crimes Still continued committing the Same without
remorse, And the Petes. therefore prayed that this Court would
be pleased to take this into consideration, and give Some directions
for the Suppressing of that Sunday Market in Turnmil Street
and other places, And that the peace Officers may bring Such
Offenders to Justice both there and in other places where they Shall
be found offending in the manner above mentioned, non
upon consideration had of the Said Petition, and For as much as.
It appeareth to this Court by the Oath of Several persons That
they have for Several Sunday mornings for Some time past
frequently gone through Turnmill Street neare Clerkenwell
And then & there between the hours of nine and twelve of the
Clock on Several Sundays or Lords days Seen great quantitys
of meat Setforth and exposed to Sale by Butchers at Several places
in the Said Street in the time of Divine Service And the Said
persons both Said they beleived that the Said Butchers frequently
continue to Setforth and expose meat to Sale and Sell every
Sunday morning at this time in the Said Turnmill Street , This
Court in Order to prevent Such in pious & wicked practice for the
future Doth hereby Order That it be And It is hereby
recommended and referred unto all & every of his Maties
Justices of the peace for this County residing in Finsbury Division
in the Said County or any two of them to consider of the matters
complained of as above in the Said Petition, And to putt in
execution against Such person & persons as Shall offend in the
premisses the respective Laws made against the breach &
prophanation of the Lords day or Such of them as may most
effectually tend to the Suppression of the wicked practice above
mentioned, And to Order Such peace Officers to be aiding and
assisting in & about putting the Law in execution against
Such Offenders as aforesaid as the Said Justices of the peace or
any two of them Shall think proper, And the Said Justices of the
peace or any two of them are hereby desired to certify an
account of their proceedings in the premisses to the Court of the
next General Session of the peace to be holden for this
County.
