Edward Davies< no role > of Holborn Bridge in the City of London
Grocer and George Evans< no role > of the same place Apothecary
severally make Oath and say And first the Deponent Edward
Davis for himself saith that about the latter end of the Month
of July last one Henry Smith< no role > feloniously stole a Handkerchief
belonging to this Deponent out of this Deponent's pocket at
Holborn Bridge aforesaid and the said Henry Smith< no role > being
detected in committing such Offence was apprehended and a
taken into Custody And this Deponent saith that the said
Henry Smith< no role > was the next day examined before the then
Sitting Alderman at Guildhall London touching the said
Felony and was by him committed to one of the City
Compters and this Deponent then became bound in a
Recognizance to prosecute the said Henry Smith< no role > And this
Deponent saith that in the begining of the Month of August
last he this Deponent was taken ill with a violent Fever
attended with the Ague and from which fit of illness this
Deponent hath only recovered within the present Month
And this Deponent saith that from the time of the commencement
of his said illness until the very day of his quitting Town as
hereinafter mentioned he this Deponent was under the care
of the other Deponent George Evans< no role > as his Apothecary when
the Fever in a small degree had abated but this Deponent
then being in a very weak state of Body occasioned by the
said Illness he was advised by the other Deponent and his
Friends in general to go into the Country for the benefit of
the Air in order to reestablish his Health and strength
And this Deponent saith that under such advice and for such
purpose as aforesaid and no other he this Deponent quitted
London on Monday the Twenty eighth day of August last
to go to Margate in the County of Kent at which place he
remained in a very weak and infirm state of Body until the
