The Information of David Fernie< no role > of Church
Alley Lothbury London Clerk to John Thornton< no role > Esqr.
who, being upon Oath saith, that on this day fortnight between
five and six in the Evening he saw Mr. Russell at the
End of Whites Alley in the parish of Saint Giles Cripplegate
and being concerned to see the devastation made by the
Rioters expressed himself with some asperity to the said
Russell, against the protestant Association, at that time
considering them as the sole Cause of the Turnutts on which
Russell said that papists were employed in these
Outrages, and that if he this Informant would go down, with
him to the priests House then pulling down he would shew
to him a papist then actually concerned in the demolition
of it, he declined going down, but in a few Minutes
after that Conversation [..] Michael Martin< no role > the
prisoner now under Examination passed along, as it
coming from the priests House, at the Head of several
persons, which this informant them belived and still
continues to believe were rioters, that sd. Russell pointed
him out as the person alluded to in the Conversation
above related, and said to convince this Informant he
would call him by Name; he accordingly called his Name twice
to the best of this informants recollection, a little after he
passed them, then Martin halted and look'd at Mr.
Russell, who said to him Martin have you changed
your Coat, to pull your own house down he appeared
confused, said "No, and went off, this informant observed
something of considerable Length, as a Weapon in his Hands
but whether of Wood or Iron he cannot remember, says
he observed that Martins Coat was a good deal covered
with Rubbish, which he this informant took to be the
dust or Rubbish of a building which had been pulled
down, says the distance from where he stood to the Houses
pulled down may be [..] about three hundred Yards, but he knows
not the exact Distance, not being well acquainted with the
place.
