The Information of Ann Maguiness taken
before me this 19th. day of July 1777
Who being upon Oath says that about four Years ago she come in
[..] cated to one Thomas Probyn< no role >
a Gun engraver
a Scheme she [..]
formed in her own Mind of getting Bank Notes forged, that the
said Thomas Probyn< no role >
bought three Copper Plates and engraved
thereon Blank Bank Notes for twenty pounds fifty pounds
and one hundred pounds, that the Bank Notes from which The
said Blank Bank Notes were engraved were this Informant's
property, that this Informant concealed the said three Copper
Plates so engraved in different places until about a Year ago
when she deposited them for several Months in the Possession
of one Smith, who then lived in Spitalfields
, that she received
them back from Smith at the Fleet
Prison some time last
winter, that they were Sewed up in a Bundle both when she
delivered them to Smith and when she had them back and
that she does not believe Smith knew the Contents of the
Bundle, that soon afterwards she sold the said Copper Plates so
engraved for ten Guineas to James Elliott< no role >
at the King's head
in Little Eastcheap
in the presence of Peter Welldon< no role >
, that
before this Time she had got a Blank Bank Note Printed
off the Twenty pound plate by Robert Ryland< no role >
in order to
shew the said James Elliott< no role >
and she also got eight Blank, [..]
Notes printed by the said Robert Ryland< no role >
from the Fifty and
Plate, that the verily believes the said Robert Ryland< no role >
printed
off some Blank Bank Notes from the said fifty pound plate
unknown to this Informant and that she has since seen
