John Davies< no role > of Bishopsgate Street in the Parish of Saint Botolph without
Bishopsgate London Oilman Joseph Fletcher< no role > of Liverpool in the County of Lancaster late
Master of the Ship or Vessell called the Triumph belonging to the Port of Liverpool
aforesaid and John Stott< no role > of Liverpool aforesaid late one of the Mariner s
belonging to the said Ship or Vessel jointly and severally make Oath and
first the said Joseph Fletcher for himself saith that on or about the Tenth
Day of December last past Six Thousand Bushels of English refined
Salt were Shipped on Board the said Ship or Vessel at the Port of Liverpool
aforesaid and cleared there in Order to be conveyed by Sea to the Port of London
for and on Account of the said John Davies and of John Roberts< no role > and John Giles< no role >
of London Oilmen the Owners of the said Salt And these Deponents the said
Joseph Fletcher and John Stott for themselves severally say that on or about the
Nineteenth Day of the said Month of December the said Ship or Vessell with
the said Salt on Board her set Sail from Liverpool for the said Port of London
and that in the Course of her Voyage to London on the seventh Day of February
last past the said Ship or Vessell met with very violent and stormy Weather
at Sea near the Islands of Scilly and drove on a Ledge of Rocks in the said
Islands notwithstanding those Deponents and the Rest of the Ships Crew
used their utmost Endeavours to prevent the same And these Deponents further
severally say that in Consequence of a Signal of Distress many Persons came
in Boats from Shore and from another Ship in Harbour there on Board the
said Ship or Vessel and they these Deponents and the Rest of the said Ships
Crew with the said Persons who came to their Assistance did all in their
Power to heave the said Ship or Vessel off the said Rocks but were not
able to effect the same by Means whereof the said Ship or Vessel on the
Ebb of the Water from her lay on her Starboard Side and afterwards in the
Night of the said Seventh Day of February by the said Violent and Stormy
Weather the said Ship or Vessel fell over almost on her Beam Ends on the
Larboar'd Side and soon afterwards filled full of Water by Means
whereof and by the said violent and Stormy Weather the said Six Thousand
Bushells of Salt were lost at Sea And these Deponents further severally say
that the Loss of the said Salt was not occasioned by any Leekage of the
