taken before me this 17th. day
of December 1774

Who being upon Oath says that Yesterday morning he was accosted in Fleet
Street
by a Man whose name he believes to be Broughten and who pretended
to be a Herefordshire man. Says the said Broughton desired this Informant
to drink and took him to the Pitts Head
in the Old Bailey

after two men now present who call themselves John Jones< no role >
& William
Hennings< no role >
came the Room in Which this Informant & Broughton
were that the said Jones & Hennings began to Cut Cards for Money
that the said Hennings desired this Informant to Join him in betting agt.
the said Jones which he did and thereby lost four Shillings. that before
they began to Cut Cards as aforesaid the said Jones said he had been
to Boldere's the Banker and Receive'd part of a Thousand Pounds.
this Informant seeing the said Jones possessed of Money and wanting
Cash for a Bank Note, he took out of his Pocket a Thirty Pound
Bank Note and laid it down before Jones desiring him to give this
Informant Cash for it that as soon is he had laid the Note down the
said Hennings back oned him to come out telling this Informant
he was ashamed of such Company as Jones. but this Informant sus-
pected the said Hennings meant to draw this Informant aside whilst
the said Jones made off with the Note. this Informant did not quit
the door but returned into the room to Jones again & asked for the
Cash who began to Equivocate and told him he should have it
presently that soon after the said Jones Slipt out of the Room
and ran away. And this Informant further says that the said
John Jones and William Hennings feloniously Stole his note
for Thirty Pounds as aforesaid
