the
above named Defendant Maketh Oath and Saith that [..] at the Last Sessions
this honourable Court was pleased to Order and Direct him this Deponent
to pay to the above named Prosecutor Jonathan Chubb or to his Sollicitor
the Sum of twenty pounds Adjudged by the honourable Court as Costs to be
paid to the said Prosecutor for his Expenses in bringing his Witnesses to
London to attend the Trial of the said Indictment preferred against him
the said Defendant And this Deponent further Saith that by means of
the said Prosecutor Jonathan Chubb< no role >
and his well known Intention further
to ruin and oppress Deponent he this Deponent [..] by long imprisonment
and other oppressive modes is greatly reduced in his Circumstances And
Deponent further Saith that in Order to Comply as much as in his power
lay with the direction of this honourable Court Deponent at the Close of the last
Sessions applyed to a Freedom in London who upon former occasions had
use to supply and lend Money to Deponent In Order to procure money
from his said Friend to bear Deponents expences into the County where
Deponent was in hopes of raising money sufficient to enable Deponent to
Comply with the said Order of this honourable Court and Deponent Saith that
his Friend upon that occasion absolutely refused to supply Deponent with any Sum
of Money for that or any other purpose Saying he had seen an advertisement
in the Saint James's Chronicle which advertisement or paragraph Deponent
believes was sent to the said Paper by the said Jonathan Chubb or his Son

or by his or their direction or procurement And this Deponent
Saith that with the greater difficulty Deponent get into the County as
Bridgewater and being there upon particular business was presented
Compleating the same by some Letters wrote from there to London greatly
to the Injury of Deponents Character and therein representing Deponent as
