Import thereof was that the said John Rice< no role > arrived at Harwich on
Thursday the said Twenty third Day of December One thousand seven
hundred and Sixty two soon after the Pacquet Boat for Helvoet Sluice
was Sailed And that the same Afternoon He the said John Rice< no role > hired a Vessel to
carry him to Helvoet Sluice And this Depont. further Saith that it likewise
Appeared upon the said Examinations that in the Afternoon of the said
Twenty third Day of December the Wife of the said John Rice< no role > went to the
said Gregory Geerings< no role > House when She received Instructions in Writing
which way to follow her Husband And that the said Gregory Geering told
her She must enquire for him by the Name of James Rogers< no role > And that She
Set out accordingly on the next Morning vizt. the Twenty fourth Day of
December last And this Depont. further Saith it also appeared upon
the said Examinations that shortly after the said John Rice< no role > went for
Holland the said Defendt. Gregory Geering< no role > Sollicited a Commission of
Bankrupt against the said John Rice< no role > (which Commission appears to
bear date the Twenty eighth Day of the said Month of December) And this
Depont. further Saith that upon such Examinations and the Circumstances
appearing before his Lordship the said Gregory Geering< no role > was on or about
the first Day of January last Committed by His Lordship to the Poultry
Compter as an Accessary after the Fact as this Depont. apprehends and
believes And that afterwards to wit on or about the Seventh Day of the same
January the said Gregory Geering< no role > was as this Depont. hath been informed
and believes Discharged out of Custody by his Lordship upon a Recognizance
being Entred into for his Appearance at the then next Session of Oyer and
Terminer to be held for the City of London And this Depont. Robert
Mountague further Saith that the Forgerys Charged upon the said
John Rice< no role > as aforesaid were discovered in the Month of December
last and great Care and Diligence was had and taken to cause him
to be apprehended and several very strict and Expensive
Pursuits were made for that purpose And it appearing upon the
Examinations of the said Defendt. Gregory Geering< no role > that the said
John Rice< no role > was gone for Holland several Persons were Sent
thither and elsewhere in pursuit of him and there were hopes that
the said John Rice< no role > would have been taken before the then next Session
of Oyer and Terminer to be held for the City of London but the said
John Rice< no role > not having been then Apprehended the Recognizance entred
into by the said Dept. Gregory Geering< no role > and his Suretys was as this
Depont. hath been informed and verily believes at the last Session of
Oyer and Terminer held for the City of London respited with the
Consent of the said Defendt. Gregory Geering< no role > to the then next and now
