24 June 1758
To the
Right Honourable the Lord Mayor
And the rest of
His Majesty's Justices of the Peace
for the
City of London
The following Scheme of Rates for Carts Etc
Inhumbly submitted by a considerable
Number of Wholesale Fraders in the said City
The said Traders finding great
inconveniences from the Rates made for the
Cartage of Goods upon the 11th. July 1757
And having maturely examind, & consider'd
the said Rates, there ordain'd & settled, do humbly
apprehend, that there's not that Equality, that
there shou'd be in Rates of this sart
And also do humbly apprehend, that some
parts of the Rates are not consistant, with other
parts, but even contracdictory to Them, and
the whole so very long & perplex'd, that it is very
difficult, both for the Trader & Carman to Find out
what the Rates are
And as it is presun'd every one will allow
that the Rule, Rate, or price of all Kinds of Carriage
is govern'd by the respective weights, & distance
of such carriage. That said Traders therefore
humbly propose the following scheme of Rates
to be made, ordain'd & establish'd at the next
Quarter Session in Lien of those made
11th. July 1757 [..]
