Indictment sets forth that

late of London
Butcher
on the First Day of October in the
Twenty Fourth year of his Majesty King George the second of Great Britain Etca. And at divers other times between
the said first day of October in the 24th: year afsd. and the second day of January in the same Year with force & arms
at London afsd. in the Parish of St. Mildred in Bread street
in the Ward of Breadstreet
unlawfully & unjustly
had and kept One pair of false Scales which wanted in the draught of the same One quarter of a pound wright
to make them of an equal and due ballance He the said

then & there well knowing the sd. Scales
to be defective of their equal and due ballance as is afsd. with intent to deceive & defraud the subjects of our
Lord the King by selling to them divers Goods wares & Merckandizes by the sd. false Scales to the evil Example
of all others in the like case offending and against the peace of our sd. Lord the King his Crown & Dignity

he hung a piece of fat by a hook to ye. ballance so as to make the Scales even
