Who on his oath saith That Sometime in the month of
September in the year of our Lord 1723 Thomas Butler< no role >
now a prisoner
in Newgate
for a felony comitted at
Portsmonth
in Stealing from Rebeccah Gauler< no role >
Fifty
broad peices of gold came to this Examinants house in
Red Lyon Street
and told him with a great deal of
concern that he had, had three South sea bonds of one
hundred pounds each with interest due thereon from
Major Lechmere, which bonds had been pickt out of
the said Maja Lechmere's Pockett and at the same nine
upon further Discourse the said Butler told this Examints:
that he took them from the said Major Lechmere and
sold the same in a clergymans habit to Mr Bostock a
Broker, at the Five bells Tavern
in the Strand
And
lastly This Examinant on his oath saith That the
said Butler applyed to him to lend him the said Butler
Five hundred pounds with part of which the said
Butler declared to this Examinant he would pay the
said Major Lechmere And accordingly the said
Examinant did advance and Lend the said Butler
Five hundred Pounds in a bank note for that Sum
in the prsence of Capt Miller of the Guordo, Mr Willbra hand
an Attorny in Dinbs Court, and Mr Hilton perukemaker
in Exchange Ally, they being together at the Georges &
vulture Tavern in Cornhill
