Smith will prove that he reced some part of a written Copy of the booke from the Deft. wth. had not ye. Tytle it
now bears, That he never read it himself but caused some part to be read to him And that he made a
bargain with the Deft to pay him as Anne of mony for this copy and then delivered the part he recd. from ye
Deft. To James to be printed but knows not whether any of the Paragraphs set forth in ye. Informacon
werein that part soe delivered him by Deft, otherwise than as the same Now appear in ye printed Booke

James the printer Sayes that he recd. such part of he booke from Smith [..] wth Ordered to send ye proof sheets from time to time to Defts house & to bring from
him the rest of the Copy as he should have occasion and that he caused his Servts. to Sett the Press &
ordered the Boy to carry the proof Sheets to Defts house & to bring back other sheets of the Copy to
keep the press at work But was not the Compositor himself Nor ever was the book till Printed Nor
had he ever any discourse with Deft about it.

The Boy Will prove that by his Mars. Order he went frequently to Defts house which proof sheets whilst
the books was printing But Cannot say that he carried all the sheets (other Boys being often sent)
But never saw Deft correct the sheets & Say she often brought back written papers with those
proof Sheets which he reced sometimes from Deft & sometimes from the Servants of the house, But
knows not the Contents of what he brought to or from the Press Nor doe any of the Witnesses know whose
hand ye. Copy was, Nor what is become thereof.

There being therefore in proof that the Deft writt the Books, or that he delivered
or caused to be printed any of the sheets of the Copy in which the Pagraphs sett forth
in the Informacon are contained, Or that he ever published the same when printed
We therefore hope he Cannot be found Guilty of writing printing or publishing the
said Prtended Libells.

But if ye. Evidence shall appear sufficient to Consitt. ye. Deft of Causeing the book to be printed or published
Yet us hoped that Same will not appear to be Libell Nor to be printed or published wth. any such Intent
as layd in the Informacon

And Therefore if the Deft is not likely to be acquitted Its hoped that the same will be specially found

Note

The Deft (alths a Non juror) has allways behaved. himself peaceably & without offence to ye.
governmt. And has many Witnesses of Honor & Creditt To prove the same.
