The Information of Mary Lane< no role > the Mother, and Chatebery
Lane
< no role > her Childtogather with Elen: White< no role > . and John
Winterbottom
< no role > all of the Parish of Chelsea in the said County
Taken before me Edward Read< no role > Esq one of his Majestgs Justice of the Peace for the said County this first Day of Feby: 1787who Seperately
upon their Oaths sayfirst Mary Lane< no role > for herself saith, that about 2 O'Clock
this Day she went into the Garden of the house where she Lodges, (being at
the Sign of the Red Lyon Publick House in the Kings Road Chelsea) to hangout
some wet Shirts. Shifts Etc to Dogand that about 4 o Clock her little
Daughter (Chatebene) came running to her, and in great hurry told her, that she
had Just seen two Ragged Boys go out of the Garden, and the smallest of
the Boys had a bundle under his Coat, and that she believed they had been Stealing
the things out of the Garden, and she desired this Deponent to go to the Window
and see if some of the things was not goneand the Alarm was immediately
given in the House, and she pursued them with many othersand in a place
called Fields Yard in Turks Row Chelsea aforesaidshe saw the great Boy now
Present who call himself John Edwards< no role > standing with his Back against a
large Water Tuband behind Tub she saw one of the Shirts now produced and
Wet. which she says is one of the Shirts she had about 2 o'Clock. hung out in the
Garden to dryand which she had taken with other thing to wash for a Gentleman

And Chatebene Lane< no role > the Child saith. that about 4 o Clock she saw two
Ragged Boys come out from the Garden, and the smallest Boy had a bundle under
his Coat, that she knew her Mother had hang some linnen out to dryand she
immediately run into the house and told her to look out of the Window. for that
she believed two Boys had Stolen some of the things awayand they was
but Just Gone

And John Winterbottom< no role > saith, that being at the Red Lyon Publick
House in the Kings Road Chelsea this Day about 4 o Clock he heard the little
Girl Chatebene Lane. come hurrying in and tell her Mother, that some of the
linnen was taken away by two Boys, that he immediately pursued them
and saw, and followed them to Castle Yard Turks Row Chelsea aforesaid
and found the smallest Boy now present who calls himself Will: Esdall
secreted in the Necessary House

And Elenr: White< no role > saith, that about 4 oClock. she being near Crawfords
Corner, the end of Turks Row she saw two Boys now present, Edwards and
Edsall, pursued, that they turned into Turks Row, and she likewise says that
she saw the smallest Boy Edsall have a silk Handft . tied up in a bandle
and appeared to be linnen, the same now producedand she further saith
that she perfectly heard the great Boy say to the small one"Damme
