Surrey to wit


The Several Informations of Richard Hughes< no role > of
the Parish of Saint George Hanover Square in the County of
Middlesex Gardnier and Joseph Elliot< no role > one of the [..] Patrole
belonging to the Parish of Saint John Westminster in the
said County taken upon Oath this 18th. day of April 1787

And first the Informant Richard Hughes< no role > saith That some time in or about the
Month of February last his Dwelling house was broke and Entered
in the following manner the Barrs of the Cellar Window were
broke and wrench'd open and several Locks of Cupboards were
also broke open and one Silver Spoon Stolen therein and
taken away and sundry table Cloaths and other things were
packed up for the purpose of being taken & carried away but who
were the persons that Committed such Burglary and Felony
this Informant doth not know.

And the Informant Joseph Elliott< no role > the on the 27th. day of
February last between the hours of two and three in the
Night as he was on his Duty near the End of Marsham Street
in Westminster he heard a Noise of Dogs Barking which
Caused him to suspect that some thing was the mater or
Milbank which Occasioned him to go that way That where
he came within about 150 yards of Mr Hughes's house he
observed a Boat lying on Shore which gave him Reason
to think that some persons were there that had no Business
there when he came within about forty or fifty yards of the
said house he saw a Man Standing with his Face against
one of the large Fees nearby facing Mr Hughess (Which Man is now in
Custody and now present and who says his name is John
Jackson
< no role > ) he said to him who are you, Jackson answered, I am
a Watchman, he then asked him what he was doing there, he
made no reply but went towards the Garden Gate and he saw
him put his Right hand [..] round a Port and choved the Bolt of the
Gate back and opened the gate with his left handThis
Informant asked him where his piece was (Supposing him to be
a Watchman as he had before informed him) he said he had none
He then Suspected him to be a bad Person he put the Point of
