The Voluntary Examination of George Spurging< no role >
taken on Oath before me William Blackborow< no role > Esqr .
One of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and
for the said County this 23rd. day of March 1787

Who on his Oath saith that on Friday the 9th. day of March Inst. he went
into a Public House known by the Sign of the Bull in Thomas Street in the
Parish of Saint Mathew Bethnal Green the hours of four And five
of the Clock in the Afternoon in order to play at Skittles at which time
this Examinant first became Acquainted with the Prisoner Thomas
Sargeant
< no role > who was there in Company with one William Soars< no role > an Acquain-
-tance of Examts. the said Wm. Soars said to this Examinant will you
buy a Pig, it belongs to this Man (Meaning Sargeant) who asked
Examinant Three Shillings & Six pence per Stone for it This Examinant
said it would not do for him it was too much Money that after having
some Supper together this Examinant parted with them That the night
following being Saturday the said Thomas Sargeant< no role > came to this Examts.
house in Browns Lane Spitalfields and asked him to go with him
and buy some of the Pork for the (Sargeant) could not get his Money
for it This Examt. went with him to Mr. Rhodes in Hare Street to look
at the Pork but did not buy any of it as they could not agree for the
Price The said Thos. Sargeant< no role > then [..] told Examt. to go to the [..] ull
in Thomas's Street and he would come to him which soon after he
did and Sargeant then said to Examt. I will send you Five Sheep
to Kill on Monday to Make amends [..] for the Trouble he had That
about Six of the Clock on the Monday Morning being the 12th. Instant
the said Thos. Sargeant knocked this Examt. up and in Company with
another Person whose name Examt. is unacquainted with brought
to his said House Three Polled Whether Sheep and two Horned Norfolk
Years the said Thos. Sargeant desired Examt. to Kill them directly
which this Examt. and the said Thos. Sargeant immediatly began to
do and as soon as they were killed and Dressed the said Thos.
Sargeant asked Examt. to Lend him a Bag which he did and
the said Thos. Sargeant took the five Skins away at twice. This
Examinant Sold the Fatt which came to Sixteen Shillings and
