Middlesex to wit


The Information of Sarah Overy< no role > Samuel
Reeves
< no role > , Joseph Jackson< no role > and John Atkins< no role > taken
before me this first Day of October 1783.

Who on their Oath say, and first the said Sarah Overy says that
she is Servant to Mary Smithers< no role > of Holborn Hosier - That on Thursday
Evening last about half an hour past 5 o'Clock, as this Informant
was going up her Mistresses Staircase into the Dining room,
she same a Man on the Stair case who asked her "if Mr. Thompson
lived there" and upon this Informant replying in the nagative he
ran down stairs, immediately upon which a Person now present
who calls himself Thomas Brown< no role > came out of the Dinning room
and attempted to run down stairs also, when this Informant
laid hold of his Waistcoat and cried out "Stop Thief", Whereupon
said Brown turned round damned her for a Bitch and asked
her "what she meant by that" this Informant replied that "He
had got the Salts out of the Dining room" when said Brown Struck
her three times with a Stick in a violent manner and then
ran down stairs And the said Samuel Reeves< no role > Jays that he
is in partnership with said Mary Smithers< no role > that upon hearing
said Sarah Overy cry out, he ran upstairs and out into [..]
Staples Inn and from thence into castle Yard , where he observed
said Thomas Brown< no role > running, and upon this Informant crying
out "Stop Thief" said Brown stopped and asked this Informant
"What was the Matter" when this Informant laid hold of him and
whilst a Mr. Redhead held him, this Informant Searched him, and
in his Coat pockets found the two silver salts, one table spoon
and a cream jug now produced, the property of said Mary Smithers< no role >
And the said Joseph Jackson< no role > says that he was in Grays Inn
Lane at this time, and upon seeing said Brown resisting against
said Saml. Reeves< no role > , he laid hold of said Brown, and as they
