the 28th. April 1772 Touching the Death of Patrick
Murphy

Thomas Lyon< no role > of Newtoners Lane in the Parish of St. Giles in
the County of Middx Bricklayer saith That last Saturday
Morning between 7 & 8 he was Informed that a Woman had
with a knife Stabb'd a Man and Called upon him to AssistThat he
went down and took the woman who called herself Judith
Whalin
< no role > And in Carrying her to the round house he asked
her the Reason why she Stabb'd the Man, she said she
hoped he was not dead, but said the Reason was he called her
an Old Witch,That he Asked no more Questions but took
her to the Round house, and Searched her but found no
Instrument upon her, but Saith that the Moment he took the
Woman into Custody he saw the deceased Walking up the
Street with his hand upon the Wound, bleeding, And desired
the Neighbourhood to take Murphy to the Middx Hospital
which was the nearest place for relief That after his Return
fromthe round house, he hastened back to Murphy and< no role >
went with him to the Middx Hospital, where he stayed with
him till he died which was in about a Quarter of an hour
That the deceased never spoke during the time he was with him
Says That he asked what was become of the Knife, with which she
had Stabb'd the Man, but she made no Answer, That he was Informed
a Man had taken it out of her hand, after she had attempted to
Cut her throat with it, Says the Knife produced he received from David
Prosser

Saith that the deceased Led Lodged the next Door to the Witness
but [..] had Work'd in the same Room with him for thirteen
week's pastThat between 7 & 8 last Saturday the deceased
came out of his own Room into the witnesses and told him that
he was going out in search of Work, and in a Short time
afterwards( Returned with Judith Whalin< no role > , into his Room, where
the deceased Confessed to the Witness, that he had Asked her
what she would Treat him withThat she put her hand
in her Pocket and said she had [..] Money for a pint of Beer
and gave it him, who went down and brought up a Pint of
Beer, That Judith Whalin< no role > was there Sitting in the Witnesses
chair near his Working Place & took up the witnesses knife now
produced to Clean her Shoes with, That she Asked the deceased
